Phaon Crescent

The Phaon Crescent, Phyciodes phaon, can be found throughout Florida. Look for these common butterflies
with a wingspan of 1 – 1 1/2 inches fluttering low to the ground.
Phaon Crescents produce several broods each year. Their habitats include disturbed areas, pastures, canal edges, dunes, and roadsides. Frogfruit, also known as turkey tangle fogfruit, is their larval host plant. If you would like to attract these beautiful butterflies to your yard, consider planting a ground cover of native Frogfruit.
